Nawfal Nur

Nawfal Nur has been an explorer of photography since he was twelve years old.  Seeing macroscopic plant-life and flowers through the lens of his first camera, a PENTAX K1000, and using macro-filters on the end of his 50mm lens, hooked Nawfal on viewing small details and the abstract.

In 1994, Nawfal and his family moved from his hometown, Lincoln, Nebraska (USA), to his wife’s hometown, Penang, Malaysia.  It is no wonder then, being from the Midwest (USA) and now living in Malaysia, that Nawfal has a different visual perspective of Malaysia than most local people.

As a freelance photographer and writer, Nawfal has turned his lens on many Malaysian cultural subjects, including various types of classical, traditional and folk dance styles.  He has also photographed traditional and antique jewelry; and, he has devoted time to capturing and writing about the traditional Malay weapon, the Kris (Keris).  His efforts in researching, photographing and writing  about these cultural subjects has rewarded him with seeing his work published in various magazines, including GOLD, BLADE, Dance Teacher Now, and Dance Spirit.

Nawfal spends considerable effort and time working on Abstract and Fine Art Photography pieces and folio collections.  He has earned recognition for his abstract fine art works through various photo competitions, including the competitive  on-line contests at BetterPhoto.  Also, he has several fine art and macroscopic photo works published in the on-line ‘Readers Gallery‘ of the British Journal of Photography.
